Long Bio
Tyler Zen grew up under the loving yet indulgent care of her grandmother, who pampered her endlessly. A wonderfully wild child, Tyler scaled every tree, pillar, and roof in sight. She was the only girl on her brother’s soccer team and spent her days locked in epic sword fights, embarking on daring outdoor adventures, and playing the superhero who rescued every injured critter she found.
To Tyler, the great outdoors was an endless playground, a magical realm where time flew from sunrise to sunset. With boundless energy, she thrived on adrenaline, resisting bedtime for just a little more fun. With an untamed heart, she often found herself in trouble for breaking rules and defying expectations of how a girl “should” behave. A free spirit through and through, she was a delightful handful for her kindergarten teachers, living out a fantastically rebellious childhood.
Concerned by her unruly behavior, Tyler’s parents enrolled her in piano lessons, hoping to instill discipline and “ladylike” manners. To their surprise, Tyler quickly fell in love with the piano. This new passion blossomed into a deep commitment to music, leading her to study it in graduate school and ultimately pursue a career in piano performance.
However, her musical journey took an unexpected turn. After a car accident caused nerve damage in her left hand, Tyler was left with diminished finger strength and frequent cramps, making it impossible to play at the level she once did.
Though the accident changed her course, it never shattered her spirit. Despite crying herself to sleep for countless nights at first, her determination to overcome the challenges remained unbroken. Tyler continued to embrace her love for music with unwavering resilience.
Lulu the Moon Catcher is Tyler’s first dive into the world of children’s books. Drawing from her experience, she crafted this story to encourage kids to embrace their quirks and celebrate the very things that make them unique. Her hope? To empower every child to wear their differences like a superhero cape, proudly flying in the face of conformity. Tyler wants every child to know that their uniqueness isn’t just a trait – it’s their true superpower, the secret sauce that makes them special, invaluable, and utterly irreplaceable.
A free spirit to the core, Tyler’s adventures show no signs of slowing down, and her zest for life is contagious. Fluent in three languages and two dialects, she’s always seeking out new experiences, with a passport full of stamps from her travels.
In her spare time, you’ll find her capturing the beauty of the world through her camera, dancing with charming clumsiness, composing music, savoring new cuisines, planning her next big adventure— and the list goes on. Tyler approaches life with the same curiosity and wonder she had as a child. Oh, and yes—she really did try to catch the moon when she was little.
